Every threatening situation evokes anxiety in us. Anxiety signals danger and gives us a signal to avoid the situation we experience as threatening. Back in time, people physically used their bodies to ‘run for their lives’. Their body sent a signal to the brain that danger threatening their lives is fast approaching and they run. The physical energy used for running left hardly any space for toxins being leftover and stored in the bodies. In today’s society where we do not hunt for our own food, have alarms in our houses and are protected by law – we do not have the need and opportunity to ‘run for the hills’. In the society we have created, we run away psychologically rather than physically. Of course our bodies still want to ‘run’ as the signals sent to our brain have the same purpose as thousands and millions of years ago. What differs is our perception of danger and coping mechanism we use nowadays.
“Stress is the trash of modern life – we all generate it but if you don’t dispose of it properly, it will pile up and overtake your life”
